Juanita

Juanita stood in the middle of the school with a devastated look on her face. She couldn’t believe it. Juan Oaks had just broken up with her in front of hundreds of students walking in the school hallway. He loudly accused her of being caught by the football team kissing the new boy who transferred from Florida. Hearing those hurtful words made her heart break into a million pieces. Everybody stared and laughed. She had never been so humiliated in her life.
Once she processed what had actually happened, she turned around and ran out the school doors with tears in her eyes. When she arrived home, she ran in her room and locked her door. Her mother ran in behind her and asked what was wrong. Juanita cried tears into her pillow and ignored everything her mother said. She just couldn’t believe that Juan believed this big lie. She knew his friends wanted to see them apart and he had let himself be tricked by their clever plan. Later on that night, her tears turned into complete anger and frustration. She was determined she would get Juan for making her look bad in front of everybody.
She put on her jacket and headed towards her front door. Before she walked out the door, she grabbed the biggest knife in her kitchen. As she walked to Juan’s house she began to shed more tears. When she got there, she demanded that he come outside and listen to her side of the story. He agreed, came out, however he still didn’t believe her. When Juan turned around to walk back in his house she stabbed him several times. His mother was watching through the window and ran outside. She couldn’t help Juan; he needed medical help. She got the phone and called 911. When they got there Juan was taken to the hospital and Juanita was arrested. (Brittany Johnson)

Jay

Jay remembered his fathers' words from this morning, "You go to school to get an education...Blah, Blah and Blah" (He dropped out and got a G.E.D.). Hearing the principal announce that student have 30 seconds to be in class forced him back to the present. His pace quickened to reflect this purpose and he rode the tide of loud, irrepressible black kids through the pack hallways of the former middle school. After making it on time, he plopped into his desk-chair and checked his pocket for the $5.00 he had for lunch money. (Mr. King)
