The Blues

The Cell Phone Blues by K’Vina Mayo My mother done took my cell phone, I really want my cell phone, She took it ‘cause of my grades, But, since it’s been gone my grades dropped, Everyone thinks I’m throwing them shade. I really miss my cell phone, I wish I had my cell phone, It’s like I’m erased from the world, I be extra bored in the house, I can’t even talk to my girl. I wish I was holding my phone, I miss the grip of my phone, It’s like my world is at the end, I’m really unhappy lately, I can’t even talk to my best friend. I miss talking on the phone, I miss texting on the phone, My social life’s coming to an end, People think I’m ignoring them, I can’t even talk to my friends. Lately I’ve had time to myself, I’ve had plenty of time to myself, Writing poetry having fun, Taking long walks in the park, I’ve seen a lot of the sun. My mother done took my cell phone, I really want my cell phone, She took it ‘cause of my grades, But since it’s been gone, my grades dropped, Everyone thinks I’m throwing them shade. LOVE / HATE BLUES by Ashia McCraw I can’t believe that I loved you I can’t believe that I loved you So much love, it’s turning into hate I can’t believe that I gave you that Do you remember our first date? When did we go wrong? When did we ever go wrong? Was it you or was it me? This all must be just a dream How couldn’t we just be? Do you remember that day? Do you remember that day? When I gave you my all Should I have did something else Because after that, our relationship has fallen Now that I moved on, you want to come back Now that I moved on, you want to come back I am debating on what is right Go back to him or keep moving on Inside myself, this is a hell of a fight Now I am all alone cause I left Now I am all alone cause I left I let you come back and lost myself Trying to chase you This thing is trying to take my health Now I feel like a fool Now I feel like a fool I tried to do the right thing What did I do to lose myself? Looking back, I think, maybe, that it was just a fling My Attitude Blues by Asia Robinson I can be rude and very direct But I’m honest and don’t take no mess That’s just my attitude, “yeah, yeah, yeah” I don’t feed into drama like little girls Arguing over boys and sweat’n the b* word That’s just my attitude, “yeah, yeah, yeah” I am anti with so many females When things get real and nobody is still around, I am all I got in the end, no one to be found That’s just my attitude, “yeah, yeah, yeah” Never been the competitive type, my looks were always better. I showed off my looks, like I just brought a new sweater That’s just my attitude, “yeah, yeah, yeah” They stay trippin’, I don’t want what’s theirs Their boyfriends ugly, childish and always acting scared I just keep my cool and chill… Nobody will never be able to get to me, I’m just that real That’s my attitude, “yeah yeah yeah” Real recognize real and I’ve faced reality I will always remain number one, I’m just me That’s just my attitude, “yeah, yeah, yeah” I love no other but myself I keep me on my mind, no one else That’s just my attitude, “yeah, yeah, yeah” Teachers Blow Me Blues by Lottie Mitchell They do, entirely, too much, all the time, Teachers do too much all the time Teachers do too much, all the time Sometimes, they just give you some work Now, I don’t do it most of the time But, then when I don’t do it they don’t have to act like jerks They mean and dry Dry and mean they are They take situations way to far They always acting simple Man, after you through with a teacher You wanna go to a bar They lose your work and expect you to do it over Like, they really lose your work and expect you to do it over What is wrong with them losing work They need to be slapped something terrible Doggone teachers always act like jerks Teachers don’t understand They really don’t understand They say we always have excuses I tell them, they're always acting stupid They make you wanna throw the deuces They be trying to call your house for nothing They just be calling your house for nothing You have to be smart and delete the messages Because Mr.King calls faithfully See, me, I erase all traces of evidence And they give final exams, knowing we not going pass Just be giving final exams Now see if I don’t pass, huh… Consequences and repercussions Cus sooner or later, I’m ah have to whup somebody's... Hot Hand Blues by Racquel Clarke I love the mall When I go to the mall It’s like I’m an Energizer Bunny I buy all the clothes I spend all the money My mommy told me to save some But, I spent it instead, just being dumb I get in the house and my heart beating I yell, “yes”, then she wakes up I look in the room where my mom was sleeping I ran to my room my legs are large stumps She came in my room saying, “where your money”? I’m like, “I don’t know” She said, “stop playing, 'for I give you some” I finally said, “I spent it all”, “hon” The she started pushing me against the wall I picked up the bag that she knocked off my back I showed her the clothes that I got off the rack She said, “they cute,” “but were mines at”? I’m thinking in my head, I should have got her something But standing right here, I’m glad I got her nothing She looked upset, but I don’t care She walked in her room and flat ironed her hair I’m feeling wrong, but a lil’ alright But still thinking, why did we have that fight? Ballad

Alone With Her Phone

by Evelyn Rosmery Sandoval-Lopez

I want to talk to Bethany
But she's constantly on her phone.
She does like a boy named Landon
Before, they met she was alone.

She did meet him out in college
But, she is right here at my home.
The way they can communicate
is always talking on the phone.

If it were not for there cell phones
would they be able to still talk?
its long way to california.
She would not be able to walk.

The cell phone is very useful
without it she might even die.
Before, they met she was alone
Now she has Landon her sweet pie.

It was all because of her cell
She knew he was sent from above.
Through everyday and the night
She was reminded of his love.

But one day she called him 3 times
But he would not pick up his phone
and because of this, she dumped him
now, she has been left all alone.

The Ballad of Asia and Brandi

by Asia Robinson

Asia and Brandi were the best of friends
At least that’s what they showed
Asia and Brandi did everything together
From shopping, to movies, and sharing clothes

One day when they went shopping
Things didn’t go as usual
Brandi got mad in her face
And then the feelings became mutual

Brandi was so sad, she wanted some shoes
She was short on money, So, Asia offered to buy
Brandi accepted and away went her blues,
And Asia didn’t get a “thank you” in reply

Asia thought she should mention
That even though they were best friends
Brandi should pay more attention
To Asia, her besty – her right hand

Asia got over her hurt
Brandi was ashamed on the low
But since they lived together
They couldn’t stay mad at each other forever

The Ballad of Steven

by Steven Robin

He gave him a chance
Now he bout to spark
He can catch you in the light
He can catch you in the dark

He runs in your crib
Take all you got
He cut you up, look what you did
now YOU in the pot

He is what he is
You not what you not
You have no friends
That’s cause you were hot

Now you are dead
Just like Jimmy
And that’s on your head
You are his enemy

This is his ballad
He eat lobster
While you dally
You thought you were a mobster

You thought it was over
He had what you lack
Now he got a Rover
Wit your body in da back

Javonte and Earica

By Diamond Houston

Javonte and Earica were lovebirds
He brought everything from her shoes, to clothes.
Earica was said to follow her Gut feeling
But she couldn’t do that without the leaving

Did she trust him 100%? No, I don’t think so
Javonte was the Untrustworthy type so…
Why he was that way, No one knows
Sometimes, that’s the way it goes, so…

It came to a head, the day of September 17th
When poor Earica couldn’t take anymore
Things changed quickly, but she woke up sweet
“Why am I doing that”, “What was I doing it For”?

Everyone thought and Javonte knew that Gut of hers was evil
She was Cold-Heated and didn’t care
Her mind was set on what she wanted like the Devil
Earica went to the sliding door closet over there

She went in her Louey bag and walked over
To Poor, desperate Javonte and whispered into his ear
“I’m tired of what’s going on between us”, like a soldier
Javonte eyes widened as far as they could strained with fear

She pulled it out and words that she said surprised him…
He thought he was dead, but instead he heard
She said, “Javonte, will you Marry Me”!
Earica, what a crazy old bird

Juanita

Juanita stood in the middle of the school with a devastated look on her face. She couldn’t believe it. Juan Oaks had just broken up with her in front of hundreds of students walking in the school hallway. He loudly accused her of being caught by the football team kissing the new boy who transferred from Florida. Hearing those hurtful words made her heart break into a million pieces. Everybody stared and laughed. She had never been so humiliated in her life.
Once she processed what had actually happened, she turned around and ran out the school doors with tears in her eyes. When she arrived home, she ran in her room and locked her door. Her mother ran in behind her and asked what was wrong. Juanita cried tears into her pillow and ignored everything her mother said. She just couldn’t believe that Juan believed this big lie. She knew his friends wanted to see them apart and he had let himself be tricked by their clever plan. Later on that night, her tears turned into complete anger and frustration. She was determined she would get Juan for making her look bad in front of everybody.
She put on her jacket and headed towards her front door. Before she walked out the door, she grabbed the biggest knife in her kitchen. As she walked to Juan’s house she began to shed more tears. When she got there, she demanded that he come outside and listen to her side of the story. He agreed, came out, however he still didn’t believe her. When Juan turned around to walk back in his house she stabbed him several times. His mother was watching through the window and ran outside. She couldn’t help Juan; he needed medical help. She got the phone and called 911. When they got there Juan was taken to the hospital and Juanita was arrested. (Brittany Johnson)

Jay

Jay remembered his fathers' words from this morning, "You go to school to get an education...Blah, Blah and Blah" (He dropped out and got a G.E.D.). Hearing the principal announce that student have 30 seconds to be in class forced him back to the present. His pace quickened to reflect this purpose and he rode the tide of loud, irrepressible black kids through the pack hallways of the former middle school. After making it on time, he plopped into his desk-chair and checked his pocket for the $5.00 he had for lunch money. (Mr. King)

FMA 10 Commandments

Love yourself first, never lie to yourself and only rely on yourself

Work now, play later, be assertaive

Don't hate, you are who you are

Don't leave the one you love for the one you like, treat them right or someone else will

Laugh now, cry later

Do not follow others, know what you want

Don't bite the hand that feeds you

Money isn't everything, be kind to others

Think before you act

Live where the wind blows, remember honesty is a lonely word

Seven Sins Seven Virtues

The following works are explorations of the "Seven Deadly Sins" and the "Seven Heaven Virtues". The Cadets were asked to describe each attribute in the context of their experience within a specific sin and/or virtue.

Gratefulness

by Mylandria Hunter

Who can be grateful?
Anyone can be grateful
Do you know how to be grateful?
Many people do
Are you one of the few?
Who can not only but also do
Having the desire to thank somebody
Having the will power to thank somebody
Showing the desire to thank somebody
Showing your love to somebody
Showing your appreciation to somebody
Showing your gratitude to somebody
Feeling thankfulness for somebody
Being willing to thank somebody
Expressing thanks to somebody
So when you think of the word gratefulness
Are you grateful for somebody?

Respect

Unknown

Respect, it’s far more than not stepping on someone’s shoe. It comes down to all the decisions you choose.

Respect, It needs to be given in order to be “got”, it ain’t all about being the hottest person on the block.

Respect, show a sense of self-control and when all hope is lost, you’ve got your pride to hold.

You shout about the lack of respect, but you need to do something about it, nothing will get accomplished by arguing, fighting and shouting.

Before you walk out that door, do a double check, cause you ain’t ready to leave without your respect.

For others and yourself and all the hatred that you felt, it’s gone, it’s been erased. It needs to be replaced.

Before you take a step, check your respect.

It doesn’t start with beating someone up in the bathroom. To tell you the truth it doesn’t start in the streets, Respect starts with you.
